Call for Papers: AI in Futures and Foresight Science

Together with Diana Kozachek (University of St. Gallen) and Raúl Trujillo Cabezas (Universidad Externado de Colombia), I am guest editing a special issue of Futures & Foresight Science (Wiley) on „AI in Futures and Foresight Science: Methods, Evidence, Epistemics, and Governance“. The call for papers is now open.

AI is already in use across the foresight process, from horizon scanning to scenario ideation, Delphi and stakeholder simulation. What the field lacks is a shared basis for judging whether AI-supported foresight is better foresight, since fluent output is not the same as sound anticipation. We treat AI as an instrument, as a participant in foresight processes, as an object of anticipation and governance, and as an epistemic infrastructure that shapes which futures become visible and contestable.

Topics include AI-assisted scenario methods, generative and agentic workflows, evaluation and validation, failure modes such as hallucination and homogenization, participation and power, and the responsible governance of AI. We welcome empirical, design science, review, conceptual and critical contributions.

Full papers can be submitted at any time until 30 September 2027 and are published online after acceptance and production. If you want to check whether a planned paper fits, don’t hesitate to send me an email.
