Potsdam becomes Europe’s leading digital hub thanks to Hasso Plattner Foundation
A visionary large-scale project marks a major milestone for science, digitalization, and urban development in Brandenburg: The Hasso Plattner Foundation, the University of Potsdam, and the State of Brandenburg have signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding. At its heart is a new university campus on the historic Brauhausberg site (former parliament) – a state-of-the-art center for research, teaching, and innovation in the middle of the city. At the same time, one of Europe’s leading centers for Digital Sciences and Artificial Intelligence is being established at Griebnitzsee, spearheaded by the Hasso Plattner Institute.
The project combines strategic urban planning, digital transformation, and cutting-edge research. A high-level task force is driving implementation, construction, and academic appointments forward at pace. The goal is completion by 2035 at the latest. This initiative has the potential to propel Potsdam and Brandenburg into the top tier of European science hubs – delivering lasting benefits for education, the economy, and society.
